The [I]KOSO is a self-built 20-channeled loudspeaker instrument with the ability to project sounds in every spatial direction. Every speaker can act as an individual sound source or they all perform as one complex spatial speaker through sophisticated methods of distributing sounds on the speaker system.
Like every other instrument, the [I]KOSO needs a resonator for transforming acoustic signals into sounds. It needs an acoustic space of any kind, the more special, the more interesting. With walls, floors, ceilings, panels surrounding it and reflecting sounds, it can create a multi-dimensional sound field, that by far extends its own dimensions. No matter if church, hall, tank, forest – every space will create a different result. Usually with synthetic sounds, loudspeakers are mere tools and acoustic spaces are avoided to be able to take control over every parameter. The [I]KOSO, however, is longing for the acoustic space and benefits from its unique properties.
